I had a chance a few summers ago to read Mr.Beliveau's autobiography. The book goes on to explain Mr.Beliveau's first NHL contract with the Montreal Canadiens. A very interesting story where the Canadiens attempt to sign a very young phenom named Jean Beliveau but not able to do so due to Mr. Beliveau's parents. His Parent had a concern with their committing to a contract at such a young age (Players could then sign papers for their rights prior to turning 18). After much go around the Canadiens bought-out the league in which Jean Beliveau was playing in to obtain his rights. That's right, the whole league just to have "Le Gros Bill".
I truly enjoy interesting stories about NHL history and I was looking for something that would represent this story within my collection. I was lucky enough to find this 11X14 photo on ebay prior to the autograph session and knew this was what I needed. The day of the session however had been a hectic one for me and I was running late. I called the show handlers to see if I was coming near the end of the session and if I still had a chance to get my photo autographed. When I finally arrived everyone attending had already obtained their autographs. When I finally was able to walk up to Mr.Beliveau he jokingly said "so you are the guys who were running late?" what a class act! He also looked over the photo and explained a little bit about the history behind it. A great experience to say the least. The night was a total success getting a great story as well as obtaining an interesting and unique piece from the legend himself.
